Licenciado em Direito pela Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa, em 1981.

Ingressou no Centro de Estudos Judiciários em Outubro de 1985.

Foi Juiz de Direito nos tribunais judiciais do Seixal, Nordeste, Ferreira do Zêzere, Elvas, Barreiro Cascais, Vila Franca de Xira, Execução das Penas de Lisboa e Varas Criminais de Lisboa.

Prestou serviço nos Tribunais da Relação de Coimbra, do Porto e de Lisboa.

Foi formador de Auditores de Justiça na fase de iniciação e de Juízes em estágio de pré-afectação. Em acumulação de serviço, foi docente no Centro de Estudos Judiciários, na área de Direito Penal e Processo Penal de Setembro de 2005 a Abril de 2006 e coordenador regional de Évora do CEJ de Abril de 2006 a Abril de 2009. Participou em júris de provas de acesso ao CEJ (escritas ou orais) desde 2006.

Assumiu as funções de vogal do Conselho Superior da Magistratura no triénio 2013/2016.
